Report on Visit to India International Science Festival (IISF 2016-17)
The students of DPSG, Palam Vihar had a golden opportunity to inculcate a scientific temper and develop a spirit of enquiry when they visited India International Science Festival.
The main aim of IISF,2016 - to communicate science and Technology to masses and provide a common platform for students and scientists was indeed a blessing for the budding scientists of classes IX to XI.
The programme was conducted in the premises of National Physical laboratory. It was a five day programme from 7th to 11th December 2016 and saw an enthusiastic participation from the DPSGites of Palam Vihar.
The enriching session was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Harsh Vardhan. While the visit to the National Physical laboratory was marked by the interaction of the students with the scientists and the familiarization of the students with their research work, the demonstration of the concept practically made it an observatory and interactive session. The students were also immensely benefitted by the visit to Expo of National Coal Limited as they gained insight into understanding the renewable sources of energy. This was followed by a lecture on light by Dr. Gourish Naik and a discourse on Relevance of coal in india’s energy mix by Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh. A visit to Unnat Bharat, a Mega Expo conducted by all IITians all over India helped them understand how technology can be used to facilitate agriculture and domestic operations. A visit to Expo of Defence Research and Development Organization made the DPSGites aware of various techniques used in Army Vehicles and Laser Science and technology and space research radar technique. The students also appreciated the metrological operations and marine sciences as they visited state wise national level Science Exhibition. The hands on Physics and Chemistry activities enabled the students to display their prowess and they were awarded participation certificates for the same. This visit was an intellectually stimulating experience and empowered the students to make use of their innovative ideas to develop technology. This visit helped the students to develop an affinity for Science and Technology.
